In English, Please!

In English, Please!

Part of what Jillian does in Haiti is run a scholarship program for around 150 Haitian children.  As part of this program the children are given school books that they are required to return at the end of the school year.  Well the book giveaway was on Saturday and I was able to snap a picture of this little gem.  I’m not sure if I’m more shocked by the condescending title of the book or by what lies just over lady liberty’s shoulder.  Not to mention, this is book two of the “Why don’t you speak English, stupid?!” series.  Just kidding.

  1. Yup, strange to have such a book title in schools where people don’t speak english. Can you imagine the outrage if a book was passed out in US schools, titled “Save your money, PLEASE!” I mean, where would our society end up if we demanded people do such an un-American thing. Seriously (and sadly) though, the fact that Haitians speak a language spoken nowhere else on the planet can’t be good for the future of the country. We have all had to learn things from beyond our “family home” whether a different language, a computer skill or the knowledge of whether to use cold or hot water in the washer. You don’t have to do this, but I submit the totally non-PC observation that the lives being lived on many Native American Reservations demonstrate the results of never going beyond your heritage.
